04/12/20 - Samantha Jade being interviewed for "Jamie Apps Media"

Over the course of 2020, we have all dealt with challenges and perhaps learned a little about ourselves. For "ARIA Music Award" winning singer and "The X Factor Australia" winner Samantha Jade, she learned just how crucial her friendships were to her emotional and mental wellbeing.

This year Jade has released two singles, "Back 2 Back" and "New Boy", the first of which conveys her experience with 2020 and social isolation with the latter then being a more upbeat track to simply help us move past this year. Speaking to "Jamie Apps Media" Jade spoke about her challenges throughout this unforgettable year:

"I really really missed my friends, the community and the people that i'm so lucky to be around and working with all of the time. Obviously during COVID-19 none of us could see each other, which was so so hard. The hardest thing for me was not working. That is what we do as performers, it's in our blood. It's not just our job it's our love. So i found it really really hard to not be on a plane or a stage every week."

With these struggles, Jade told us that during the year she learned that "friendships are more important than you even knew because you truely can't live without your friends." As she came to this realisation Jade quickly pushed to pivot and alter the release schedule of her two singles because she wanted to convey that learned experience with her fans:

"New Boy" was actually going to come out first but i pushed for "Back 2 Back" because i wanted to put out something that wasn't just a fun dance song but actually something i had learned through COVID-19."

Thankfully the move worked with fans connecting with the song exactly as Jade had envisioned. Subsequently the schedule change also meant that "New Boy" would release at "the perfect time" with much of Australia beginning to return to some normality post-COVID-19 lockdown.

Not only has 2020 been a year of learning but for Jade her entire career trajectory has involved a series of lessons.

Early on in her career Jade travelled a bumpy road as she entered into the music industry. At just 16 years old Jade was signed to the Los Angeles based "Jive Records" - then home to talents such as Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and P!nk. So it looked as though she was on a path to mega-stardom, however, after just four years she was dropped from the label. A moment which was devastating at the time, but now looking back on it Jade says it was incredibly motivating:

"I can only say this now because of the position that i'm in, but you truely do learn from every experience. Everything that you go through is your character and what builds you up to the be the person that you are. I know that i definitely would be as appreciative as i am now if i would have gotten "success" then. So i am grateful for those days."

From there, Jade would go on to win "The X Factor Australia" in 2012. Something which Jade is quick to point out was no easy feat either, "The X Factor Australia" was also hard. I was in the bottom two more than any other contestant, so that was not easy. It's also one of those shows where you are putting yourself out there and asking Australia to judge you, so that was hard."

Through all of these experiences, Jade, in true Aussie fashion, "built up a motivation and fighter attitude to get up, dust yourself and keep going."

Now as the country is beginning to return to normal Jade is looking forward to hitting the road with her new singles, once we clear one more small hurdle:

"I'm from Perth, a very proud Western Australia girl, and the borders are very firmly closed", Jade said,  "So i definitely want to make sure that if i do a tour Perth is on the map. Which means that i have to wait until they've gone back to a bit more normality before i commit to doing a tour."

Until such time as a tour become feasible, Jade hinted at some exciting news coming next year:

"2021 will be album. I'm hoping for a tour and few exciting things to come, without saying too much." So stay tuned.

03/12/20 - Samantha Jade being interviewed by the website "PerthNow.com.au"

Pop star Samantha Jade’s Christmas wish has already come true.

With the Western Australia borders to open to quarantine-free travel with New South Wales and Victoria next week, Jade will be able to make her annual pilgrimage home to Perth to see her family:

“Christmas is always the best time of year, to be with people you love”, Jade said, “This year is a whole other level with a lot of people having been separated from their families and it has also been a really tough year mentally. I have been praying to be able to go home and see my family, hoping for a miracle.”

It comes after Jade was forced to postpone her wedding to fiance Pat Handlin, the son of "Sony Music Australia" boss Denis Handlin, because of COVID-19 travel restrictions this year:

“We did start planning because everyone was like "Are you ever going to plan this wedding?" and i feel like i wasn’t knowing it was going to happen. It was a full surprise, so i didn’t have anything even pre-done or thought out”, Jade said, “Obviously we have just had to put everything on hold; my best friend, who is like my brother, who went through my whole experience in the industry and my experience with my mum with me, lives in LA, so i can’t have a wedding without him.”

Jade’s mum died after a battle with cancer in 2014.
