Samantha Jade is ready to bring her disco party to town.
Samantha Jade’s latest album is a trip back in time as she tackles some of the biggest disco tunes of all times:
“I was pretty nervous about it”, Samantha said when she caught up with "OutInPerth.com", “I felt like i was taking on a lot, the disco era is so loved and these tunes are everyone’s favourites. Once i got into the studio though i just thought: "Be inspired by these women" and it’s an honour if someone covers one of your songs.”
Many of disco’s biggest floor fillers were sung by women like Diana Ross, Gloria Gaynor and Donna Summer – Samantha Jade said she drew a lot of inspiration from these artists:
“I think the seventies were a time when women were feeling really confident, specially people like Donna Summer, she was out there looking sexy, and she was okay with it. She inspired other women. Women like Diana Ross and Cher were breaking free.”
While she enjoyed making the record in the studio Samantha can’t wait to get on stage to perform the songs:
“I want people to come to the show and just let their hair down, get their dancing shoes on and enjoy”, Samantha said.
Asked what the recipe for nailing the disco look is, Samantha rattled off the essential ingredients:
“I feel you need really straight Cher hair, or big hair, some platforms, a mirror ball and i think you need a good attitude and a good vibe.”
As a child of the late 80’s Samantha wasn’t around for even the last days of disco but she shared that growing up in suburban Perth she was exposed to all kinds of music by her parents.
“They played everything from Ella Fitzgerald to Motown to disco, so i definitely grew up listening to ABBA. My mum loved ABBA. So "Dancing Queen" got a lot of plays in our house. Alongside "Never Can Say Goodbye" and a lot of the Bee Gees. There was a lot of dancing routines made to "Dancing Queen."
Samantha Jade seeks opening act for Perth show
Samantha has announced a competition to open for her homecoming show at the "Astor" theatre on september 14th 2018.
The winning entrant, based on skill and style of their performance via video audition, will be given a 20-minute opening set on the day as well as a one-on-one mentoring session with the talented songstress:
“I’m so thrilled to provide up and coming Perth musical acts with an opportunity to showcase their talent, i can’t wait to see all the entries and discover who will hit the stage with me in my home town.”
