28/06/17 - Samantha Jade being interviewed for the website "GraziaMagazine.com"

EXCLUSIVE: SAMANTHA JADE SHOWS US EXACTLY HOW TO WEAR HER NEW MAKEUP COLLECTION.

After a sell-out first range, Australia’s pop darling is back with a colourful new collection

When she was a little girl, Samantha Jade’s mother asked her what she wanted as a present:

“Lip gloss. My mum said the first thing i bought when i was little was a lip gloss.”

Whilst other girls her age were preoccupied by dolls and dresses, Samantha’s one true love was makeup:

“I’ve always loved it”, Samantha notes, “I love makeup and i love how it makes girls feel.”

It seemed fitting then, that with a successful career in music, she foray into beauty, a World she knows so well and has such passion for. Her first range, a collaboration with "Priceline", "Samantha Jade For Models Prefer", was a sell-out. With success usually comes a sequel, a second act, so her next step seemed a beauty no-brainer:

“I was so excited to even have another collection, honestly that wasn’t promised to us.”

The second instalment of "Samantha Jade For Models Prefer" launched just last week and this time it was punctuated with pops of colour. Available exclusively at "Priceline", the collection includes a rehashing of her greatest hits and some new beauty ballads, including a gold leaf lipstick and a coloured eye palette, which her fans and beauty aficionados will no doubt love. For Jade, it’s all about the feeling; the confidence evoked from a slick of red lipstick or the playfulness from a sprinkling of gold eye dust:

“I think people are beautiful without it, but i know it makes girls feel beautiful and if i can add to that then, i’m doing my job.”

The month is a momentous one for Jade, who has just launched her new single, "Circles On The Water". In a "GraziaMagazine.com" exclusive, Samantha shows us exactly how to wear her new range in classic Samantha Jade fashion, through the bat of an eyelid and a big pout. And whilst she’s more of a lipstick girl now, lip gloss will forever be in her beauty bag – isn’t it in everyone’s?

WHAT’S THE INSPIRATION FOR THE COLLECTION AND HOW DID IT DIFFER FROM THE LAST ONE?

“I wanted to make sure this one had a little colour in it, because the last one was the first one and it was nudes so everyone wasn’t scared by the range. It was approachable and everyone loves the Bondi bronzed look in Australia so that’s what we went for. With this one we decided to introduce colour, not too crazy though, we’re introducing a red lip because i think every girl looks amazing in a classic, glamorous, old-Hollywood red lip. Also some eye shadows with a bit of colour, eye shadow colours that are hot right now, like the burgundy and blue is really making a big comeback, so we’ve introduced that as well.

IS THERE ONE TREND YOU LOVE FROM THE COLLECTION?

I am loving the burgundy eye. I think it’s beautiful on every eye colour and suits everyone. It’s an intimidating eye colour in a palette, but if you just want to use it in the crease with gold, or if you want to use it all over it’s nice – and always keep your lip nude.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL TRICKS OR TIPS?

With the Sparkle Dust, if you want a sheen, add a tiny bit of water to your finger. If you pat it on straight it’s a little more glittery, and if you add water it’s a little shinier.

DID YOU HAVE A PARTICULAR KIND OF GIRL IN MIND WHEN DESIGNING THE COLLECTION? A MUSE OF SOME KIND?

I’m inspired by the everyday girl. I listen a lot to what people who have bought the collection and who listen to my music say, so when we’re looking into what the colours are and how it feels we always go back to the comments of people. The feedback was really good, but people did say they wanted to see more colour so we’ve taken that on board. They also wanted a lip liner so that’s why we’ve got the lip liner in there. And i love lip liner! That’s the first thing i put on! At least i’ve progressed to putting lipstick on with it – my 15 year old self didn’t, she would only line the outside and not do anything on the inside –  so i’ve grown from there. Bringing back the strobing was also a big thing too, there’s a really nice highlight palette for every skin tone in there.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ANYONE WEAR THE COLLECTION, WHO WOULD IT BE?

Beyoncé, for sure!

YOU CAN ONLY WEAR ONE MAKEUP LOOK FOR THE REST OF YOU LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Definitely a nude lip and smoky eye, but a gradual smoky eye! It would be light from the inner corner and then only at the end would you start adding black, just in the crease, for that cat-eye look.

LIPSTICK OR GLOSS?

Lipstick.

BRONZER OR BLUSH?

Bronzer.

FOUNDATION OR TINTED MOISTURISER?

Foundation for me, because of what i do.

BROWS OR LASHES?

Probably need more eyebrows, but i’d go lashes!

BURGUNDY EYE

SAMMY SAYS…

“Always do your eye shadow first, because you don’t want any spillage under your eye area or cheeks, especially with a colour like burgundy.”

STROBE

SAMMY SAYS…

“Always highlight the bridge of your nose, the highest part of your cheekbone and your brow bone. It’s for lifting, so you want the light to hit and highlight those areas. I’m a big highlighter – who isn’t!”

RED LIP

SAMMY SAYS…

“Always line your lips first and colour in the whole lip, that way you’ll never get the bleed, or when it just goes away in the middle and you’re left with just a liner. Use the lipstick as kind of an overcoat. With a red lip, definitely blot afterwards with a tissue. Also, if you want the line to be really pronounced and really sharp, go around with a brow brush and put a little bit of concealer.”

Samantha Jade on Gold Coast to perform at Robina town centre today.

Pop starlette Samantha Jade will sing while holiday crowds supper at Robina town centre today before she heads overseas on a songwriting sojourn.

While many artists turn their noses up at free performances in shopping centres, "ARIA Music Award" winner Jade is more than happy to give back to the people who helped catapult her to the top of the pops:

“That’s where you meet the people who buy your records, who keep you in the job”, she said yesterday, “You have to draw in the crowd. We always have a great time. It’s fun performing up there for them.”

Jade, in town to promote her new single, "Circles On The Water", will play "The Kitchens" at Robina from 01pm.

"The X Factor Australia" 2012 winner relocated to the UK earlier this year, but has been back on home soil for an australian tour, with shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Cairns:

“I’m from Perth and a lot of people wouldn’t come to Perth, so i don’t want them to feel like they’re missing out”, she said.

The shows followed Jade’s debut tour of the UK earlier this year, which saw her invited to perform with Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy.

A notoriously hard worker, Jade has clocked up a collective 81 million streams, released a single with Pitbull, starred as Kylie Minogue in the network Seven's miniseries "INXS: Never Tear Ys Apart" story and released her debut album, "Nine".

“If you want to stay relevant you just have to be up for working all the time,” she said.

She’s also set to launch her second cosmetics line with "Models Prefer" on june 22nd, after her debut collection sold out through "Priceline" Australia within weeks:

“I’ve always loved makeup — I was the go-to girl for everyone’s makeup growing up. I was always doing make up for my mum and my friends, so that was always a dream of mine.”

Jade will pack her bags to fly out for the US this weekend:

“I’m going to LA and London to do some songwriting and hone in on what my direction is and write some new songs”, she said, “I’ll be working with a lot of different producers and writers. Songwriting’s like a form of therapy.”

Singer Samantha Jade reveals her heartache and tears over the death of her mother

Pop star Samantha Jade may lead a glammed-up, jetsetting lifestyle, but "The X FactorAustralia" winner has told of the grief, loss and pain she still felt from her mum’s death three years ago.

London-based pop star Samantha Jade may lead a glammed-up, jetsetting lifestyle, but "The X Factor Australia" winner has heart-achingly opened up about the grief, loss and pain she still felt from her mum’s death three years ago.

Speaking intimately at a brunch at "The Butler" in "Potts Point" for the launch of her second super popular collaboration with "Priceline" pharmacy’s "Models Prefer" range, the gorgeous pint-sized performer revealed how she still struggled with losing her mum, Jacqueline, to cancer in 2014 — having a moment which brought her to tears:

“It’s still hard. To be honest just this last week i had this moment i just couldn’t stop crying”, the brave singer candidly revealed, sharing she was at "Sony Music Australia" headquarters when the overwhelming sense of grief hit:

“I actually was at "Sony" and it’s never happened to me before. I just thought i can’t do it. I can’t push through”, the singer said, “They’re such an amazing team. I’m so blessed. [Sony boss] Dennis [Handlin] is a family man — he’s such a dad. So it comes down through the entire team. They’re all such family people. The took me in an "Uber" to my apartment and kept sending me over things asking if I needed anything.”

The "INXS: Never Tear Us Apart" actress, whose new single "Circles On The Water" was also released last friday, said she still missed her mum terribly, especially with this being a milestone year. Party planning just isn’t the same:

“And it’s going to be three years. It’s a really long time not to have a mum. It’s just …. my brothers are so young. My brother is 21 this year. I’m 30 this year. They’re big birthdays not to have your mum at. They’re milestones”, she said, “I’ve been doing party planning. And i’m exactly like my mum. I would’ve turned into her. You’re doing something…you know, i’ll be planning getting everything ready and i’m like: "Oh my God, she’s not here" and you still think she’s here. That doesn’t go away. Even the other day, my brother and i were talking about some story and i was like: "Remember i sang a song there" and i couldn’t remember it and he couldn’t remember it and the only person i could ask was my mum. But you can’t. That’s the hardest thing.”

Jade, whose new single is a slight departure from pure pop and moves into a more ethereal direction, said the only positive for her was she had gained strength:

“The one thing i’ve taken from it, is once you’ve faced this, you don’t fear anything.”

Mother’s Day is still exceptionally tough for the singer who moved to London last year. In fact, she doesn’t think she will be able to celebrate the day again until she becomes a mother herself:

“That’s something in my future for sure (having kids)”, she said, “And then i can finally celebrate mother’s day again. I spent it with my dad and my brothers. That’s the toughest day of all. There’s cards and presents everywhere. It’s the hardest day. Christmas is tough. But it’s better than mother’s day. Mother’s day is just so tough. You can’t avoid it, so you have to deal, which i do. But i think when i do become a mother myself, it will be a new celebration.”

Jade said she still believed her mother was nearby. Even if she can’t speak to her:

“You have to believe in something. If someone that close to you passes. You feel things. You feel it. There are so many things that have happened to me that i feel like i can’t explain...i’ve felt it. You have to believe that otherwise there’s nothing”, she said.

Acting as mum to her two younger brothers heals the pain, she admitted:

“I’m so like a mummy. My brothers are seven and nine years younger than me. They’re like my babies. I’m obsessed with them. I love them to death”, she said, “Just last weekend my brother wanted to redo his room and he was like: "Sam, i need your help". He’s in Perth. He’s like: "I don’t know what to do". So i jumped on a plane. And went home and redid his whole room. We were in Perth "Ikea". Then i flew back…being busy is good it does take your mind off things because you have no other choice.”

Jade decided to move to London as it was time:

“I love to live in different places. I lived in Los Angeles for seven years and it was time for another move”, she said.

There’s only one problem. The lack of good aussie coffee:

“I live in Kensington. But i drive to Notting Hill every day just to get Bill Granger’s coffee at "Granger & Co". I am literally obsessed with it. I need my aussie coffee.”
